How to replace MacBook Keyboard on that has metal rivets

Replacing the keyboard on almost every single Macbook is tedious, and if you are ever tried to do it, you have probably run into a few problems where either there are so many screws that you need to take out of the back, or there are rivets, plastic rivets, and something there are metal rivets.

1.       Steps:

  1. To begin, flip your MacBook Pro over.
  2. Remove the lower case of your MacBook Pro by unscrewing the small screws Carefully lift away and set aside the lower case of the laptop.
  3. Using a spudger, pry the battery connector out of its socket in the logic board. Then, bend the battery cables back and out of your way.
  4. Three AirPort antenna cables need to extract from their sockets.
  5. Use the tip of your spudger to push the connecting cable of the camera out of its socket.
  6. Use a spudger to pry up the fan connector out of its socket on the logic board.
  7. Removing the battery before lifting out the logic board is not strictly required but makes removing the logic board easier and safer.
  8. Gently pull the AirPort card out from the MacBook Pro.
  9. Lift the logic board from its left edge and raise it until the ports clear the side of the upper case.
  10. Use the flat end of a spudger to pry the hard drive connector straight up off the logic board.
  11. Remove the three 2.5 mm Phillips screws securing the optical drive to the upper case. Lift the optical drive from its right edge and pull it out of the computer.
  12. Using the flat end of your spudger, remove the keyboard backlight connector.

The first thing that we need to do is remove this protective sticker. This helps prevent things from getting inside the device. Got quite a bit of adhesive, but it will come off with a little bit of effort. We need to then unscrew all of the screws that are surrounding the border. There is a handful in the middle as well and they are different types.

MacBook Pro keyboards are delicate devices making it easy for dust, dirt, crumbs, and other particles to cause problems with the mechanics of the instrument. When these molecules get in, they render the keys inoperable and need to be forced out. Use a can of compressed air to blast out the offending debris from under the keys.
